New parents can figure out a lot, yet a helping hand may be needed, after all, each new baby is a new experience. Remember, books & online resources are only so helpful because you and your baby are a completely unique pair! A consult offers professional advice and peace of mind, TAILORED TO YOU.

 

 

What is the value of a consult?

To prevent issues, put your mind at ease, solve nagging questions or urgent problems, be better supported, and feel MUCH better. Here are additional reasons to invest.

What are consult options?

We now have 3 options for mothers either in late pregnancy, after delivery, or with an older baby:

  • In-home

  • In-clinic

  • Virtual


What specific challenges can be worked on?

Here are some though not limited to:

  • Sore nipples or pain during breastfeeding.

  • Cranky baby.

  • Weight gain.

  • Milk supply.

  • Mastitis/blocked ducts.

  • Prenatal preparation for breastfeeding.

  • Sleepy baby, or baby that’s not latching. 

  • Previous breast surgery or trauma.

  • Breastfeeding multiples.

  • Infants with a tongue or lip tie.

  • Overactive let down/oversupply.

  • Pumping or use of breastfeeding aids such as nipple shields.

  • Returning to work or school.

  • Mixed feeding. Cue-based bottle feeding.

  • Safe formula preparation. How to bottle feed.

  • You’re just not sure.

  • Information and support.

What happens at a consult?

For All:

  • Discuss relevant background information.

  • Answer questions on your list.

  • Provide helpful resources.

For Pregnant People:

  • Provide individualized tips to get feeding off to a good start and prevent challenges.

  • Provide insights into birthing experiences and tips to support your breastfeeding goals.

For Postpartum Mothers:

  • Discuss feeding patterns.

  • Assess your baby, including a weight check.

  • Observe a feeding with whatever methods you use.

  • Determine the cause of the challenge(s).

  • Build skills.

  • Develop a feeding plan that works for you.

Fees:

May be covered by your insurance, especially for federal civil servants with Canada Life, or may not be.

Full consult (1.5 hours), $249. No HST.

Additional fees may apply if: consults go long (let me know if you have a hard stop); travel is > 20 minutes from my home office; additional action is needed.
